Kanye West is a douche bag. He makes good music, but he's a complete asshole.
What he did at the VMA's, while it was entertaining, it was rude and uncalled for.
Blaming it on not having enough time to cope with his mother's death was even more ridiculous.
Now, cancelling his tour with Lady Gaga so he can take that time i suppose is a good idea, if he really still needs to grieve for his mother.
But i on the other hand am extremely upset. I was looking forward to that tour.
God damn you Kanye. You're such a douche. But you're music is too good for me to hate you completely.

Mae is releasing their new tracks one at a time. One each month for 12 months. And they are available for free streaming on their website, and also for download for a minimum donation of $1. Rather than me attempt to explain what they are doing, here is the excerpt from their site:
"Finding new answers to these questions has lead to a redefinition of ourselves and our mission for this next chapter. The one thing that has always been most vital to our band is you. Our fans have always mattered most to us as you are responsible for breathing life into us on a daily basis and we thank you for that. Inspiring you and igniting your passions gives us purpose.
In this 2009 venture, we will bring about this purpose ourselves, as we have decided to offer our music directly to you without the partnership of a proper label. Absent a label, we have found ourselves with no limitations, continually inspired with creativity to approach the whole of our course with this direct connection in mind. With our desire to impact the world being the forefront of our mission, we have decided to donate all of our profits from digital downloads to fund humanitarian projects that MAE and you will be a part of all year long. Our new goals have become to reach new fans through you, our fans, and to reach out to those in need through the MAE community.
With this new creed, success will be redefined over and over again as we meet our goals and set new ones to change the lives of those in need, and spread this message through our music and through our community of fans and friends.
So how will we impact the world together?
When we decided how we would be sharing our music with you, giving you one song each month for the duration of 2009, we wanted to make sure that the first song we released shared our common goal and illustrated our vision to show you how to play your part in it. "THE HOUSE THAT FIRE BUILT" is not just another MAE song or even the first new MAE song. "THE HOUSE THAT FIRE BUILT" is a mission statement. This song sums up how we intend to work with you to build a greater community and a better world. Starting today, we will be reaching out our hands to you and asking that you grab them and hold on. Once you are locked in, we are going to ask you to help us make the chain longer and stronger. Just like a fire that spreads without boundaries, our goal is to ignite a change in this world that is worth being part of. Every profited dollar raised will go directly to the current humanitarian based cause we are funding. Through our website you will be able to follow our progress as we work hard to impact the community locally, nationally, and globally together. We have provided a custom MAE MP3 player for you to embed on your personal sites, profiles, and blogs, so that you can spread the word about our goals and the new music.
Each month during 2009, we will be bringing you a new Mae song.
When you visit whatismae.com, you will be able to hear the music for free.
Every song will be available as a digital download for a min. donation of $1

I personally think this is an amazing idea. The things they will be able to do without a label are infinite. Check it out, the album will be officially available in stores and online on September 22nd.

"I Came Here To Make You Dance Tonight"
"I Don't Care About My Guilty Pleasure For You"
[guilty pleasure by cobra starship]
In my ITunes music library, I have:
How many songs: 9,044
[24.6 days]
[44.61 GB]
Sorted by song:
First Song: “A” by Cartel
Last Song: "101101110110001” by Ion Dissonance
Sort by time:
Shortest song: 0:04 "Untitled” by The Sound Of Animals Fighting
Longest Song: 37:46 "I Don’t Keep With Liars Anymore” by The Bled
Sort by artist:
First Artist: The Acacia Strain
Last Artist: !!!
Sort by album:
First Album: [A-→B] Life by Me Without You
Last Album: ( ) by Sigur Ros
Top Five Most Played Songs (not including repeat artists):
1. I Kissed A Girl by Attack Attack
2. And I Told Them I Invented Times New Roman by Dance Gavin Dance
3. I Wish by The Secret Handshake
4. Heartless by Kanye West
5. Prepare to Be Digitally Manipulated by Four Year Strong
First song that comes up on Shuffle:
"Soothsayer” by The Mars Volta
(In reality it was the stream for GVSU’s student run radio, but as that is an incorrect link, I didn’t use it.)
If this little ‘survey’ so to speak doesn’t show the vast differences in my musical tastes, I don’t quite know what will. When I looked at the top 25 most played songs list, I was shocked. If I changed the format just a little bit, and put songs I actually like listening to instead of the ones that were played numerous times while I was intoxicated at a party, we’d get something a little bit different. Nonetheless, it still shows the variety of music that I listen to on a daily basis. This is why after finishing this, I am going to be resetting the play counts on most of the songs on that playlist to get rid of any confusion this may have caused.
Anyways, I suppose from here I can go into my ‘guilty pleasure’ bands. If we look up the definitions of those 2 words, we can deduce that the definition of the word ‘guilty pleasure’ would be something along the lines of this:
Guilty pleasure - adj – justly chargeable with fault or error (guilty) while being happily satisfied about it. (pleasure)
Now this makes no sense at all, I know. And in the long run, it will just prove my point. I listen to many different types of music. Though the majority of what I enjoy is considered in the hardcore/metal/grindcore genres, I do enjoy many other styles such as indie and acoustic. There are bands that people don’t like, or, in most cases, just won’t admit to liking even though they really do like them. I suppose it’s time for some examples and explanations.
Fall Out Boy – Alright. This is the one that most people do really like but feel ashamed to admit. Why though? There music is so catchy and fun. And I really do like his voice. Favourite song: This Ain’t a Scene. Favourite line: “I am an arms dealer, fitting you with weapons in the form of words.”
Cute Is What We Aim For - Not their old album. Their new one, Rotation. It’s so much better than their last one. It’s catchy and even has some good lyrics to it. Favourite song: “[Untitled]” Favourite lyric: “This is love and this is lust I made it to be the best. And if I were to be the best maybe you would just… This is love and this is lust now which one do I trust?”
Boys Like Girls – The only reason I will give for this is that their music is catchy. It’s fun to listen to really loud while you’re driving. Favourite song: Thunder. Favourite lyric: “Today is a winding road that’s taking me to places that I didn’t want to go.”
I have more I’m sure, but I don’t really feel like thinking about it too much.
Now, guilty pleasure bands are still bands that we really enjoy listening to. Why should we be ashamed of listening to music we like? Just because someone might not agree with you isn’t a good reason. And just because someone might look at you differently for liking a band shouldn’t be a legitimate reason either. If music makes you happy there should be no reason to pretend you’re better than it. Good music is good music. Don’t be ashamed of what you like.
(note to readers. I wrote this while suffering from a reaction to medication and also allergies. Couldn’t think quite clearly enough)

Sleep - Copeland
I miss sleeping next to someone. I miss the cuddling. I miss waking up to someone giving me a kiss on the forehead and saying good morning.
The chorus of this song used to be my away message on aim when I went to bed at night. Now it's an homage to From Autumn To Ashes. "Hello, My Name Is Distance. And I Really Don't Care If I Ever Wake Up Again."
Copeland is beautiful.
---
Am I sleeping with my eyes wide
Am I alone?
Am I staring into bright lights
Have I gone home?
I must be dreaming when I'm sitting here
On someone else's throne
Am I sleeping with my eyes wide
Won't you let me know?
Will I wake to find you waiting by my bedside?
Will I wake to find you waiting by my side?
Will I wake to find you waiting by my bedside?
Will I wake to find you waiting by my side?
Am I sleeping with my eyes wide
Am I alone?
Am I following the lines on faces never shone?
I want to see your hairline, your cheekbones
Your red lips on your cell phone
Won't you let me know?
Will I wake to find you waiting by my bedside?
Will I wake to find you waiting by my side?
Will I wake to find you waiting by my bedside?
Will I wake to find you waiting by my side?

inní mér syngur vitleysingur
[Inside Me A Lunatic Sings]
The above is a translation of the title, for those that wanted to know.
As cliché as it sounds, music is the air I breathe. Though most assume I only listen to hardcore or metal, I am actually well rounded when it comes to music. So you can understand this a little more, here is a list of a few of my favorite bands, in no particular order (except the first one. That is my all time favorite band.)
-Norma Jean
-Sigur Ros
-The Mars Volta
-Emmure
-The Faint
-Radiohead
-Animal Collective
-The Secret Handshake
-Kanye West
-City & Colour
As you can see, there’s not one set style of music I enjoy. I suppose you can consider my tastes unusual, or things most people have never heard of before. I will say, though, that I despise country music. It’s annoying to listen to, and it all sounds the same. Rap/Hip Hop is something I’m not in love with, but I’ve grown to be able to stand it.
While writing this, I was listening to/watching the video for the song Hoppipolla by Sigur Ros. Hoppipolla is such a beautiful song. The video for it depicts an elderly group of people acting like kids pranking, jumping in puddles, and enjoying their ‘youth”. Who’s to say they aren’t young? Then can be as young as they want to, because they have lived their life. The comments on this video say exactly how I feel about the band. “It’s truly amazing how one song can give you chills, make you cry, inspire, create hope, love even though you may not know what the songs means. I love this song.” “When I hear this, words like anger, hatred and evil have no meaning, nor do they exist.” The video for this song can be found at the end of this entry.
I will give most music a fair chance before turning it down as what I consider to be crap. I’ll take a listen and determine from there. I’m not one who listens to other peoples judgements on music. I will decide for myself if I like it or not. That is also why I have many guilty pleasure bands. More on those on a later date.
This may all seem like pointless rambling, but I promise there’s a method to my madness. This blog will consist of song lyrics, my feelings on songs, and song/album/show reviews. A movie review or two may sneak it’s way in, but for the most part this will be for music related material only. I will of course welcome comments, and suggestions for maybe a ‘themed’ entry. (one already planned is a guilty pleasure band theme) I’m not quite sure how often this will be updated at the moment. I have plenty of time now, so maybe every day or so you’ll get something, be it a video or song lyrics.
For now I will end with a link to the video for Hoppipolla, as well as a quote from their website. I would encourage you to go watch it. The user who uploaded it disabled embedding, so the link is all I can give you. I hope that you enjoy this as much as I did.
